So the AZ Moonstomp facebook page inspired this. Someone had posted a flyer of a Skatelites/Kongo Shock show from back in the mid-90's, and my friend Dave said it was his first ska show. (quite a first show eh?) So what was yours?

My first Ska show was The Insyderz in 96 or 97 at a church (of course), It was the summer before 8th grade. They were touring for their first album, Motor City Ska, which I think is still a pretty good ska-core album. A hand full of shitty local christian bands opened (the Echoing Blue and someone else). I only knew one of the Insyderz songs off of a sampler I got for free at a Christian book store.

The whole experience kinda blew my mind. I was into a few Christian ska-punk bands (Supertones, Five Iron Frenzy, Squad 5-0) and 2tone stuff my dad had ("that's not ska son, the specials are ska" "ok dad"), and the Bosstones. I stood in the back most the time with my mom and my younger brothers and sisters, because I didn't know how to dance and it seemed like everyone knew eachother and all knew the same dance.

I went home and practiced "that dance." I also drew checkerboard all over my shoes (purple puma's w/ neon green laces). That's what all the cool ska kids did.

I remember my first ska show was when i was 13 and saw streetlight. They where pretty much the whole reason I git into ska
my first real ska show was some backyard show the bands were kinda lame but it turned me onto a whole new genre of music for me and been lovin it ever sence so thank u crappy backyard ska show in 07...but my first REAL ska show was seeing 2 of my favorite bands earlier this year THE TOASTER and HUB CITY STOMPERS at the cobalt cafe in conoga park
I want to say it was 95 or 96, but... Reel Big Fish and the Cherry Poppin Daddies at the Filmore in San Francisco. It was during that few months when swing bands were getting called ska bands. After that it was all the big skapunk numbers at warped tour each year - the Bosstones, Save Ferris, Suicide Machines, Fishbone, the Aquabats, Less Than Jake, Dance Hall Crashers... Plus any and all events around the bay area at the time.
It was at sams burger joint in '05. Back when every friday was ska explosion. Kevin goes to college was playing; I was a freshman. Thats when I learned catholic school kids have fun too.

...or during those few months before ska bands were getting called swing bands, in the case of CPD. That show would have been '96. Were Let's Go Bowling and/or Spring-Heeled Jack also there?
My first Ska show was The Toasters in 94 with Coolie Ranx. I loved that show and it will probably always be my fav cause I love when Coolie was with the Toasters.
The openers were a mediocre rock band called Kara's Flowers, who closed with a cover of 'we are the champions'... I would have much preferred to see Let's Go Bowling or Spring-heeled Jack!

Dance Hall Crashers 2001, I believe. They rock so hard. I want to see them again!!!!

My first show was in like 92 or 93 @ The Boiler Room in New Britian Connecticut. It was Mepheskapheles, The Scofflaws, and Spring Heeled Jack. I fell in love with the music and have been obsessed ever since!

My first ska show was in 1995. It was the KUKQ Punk vs Ska fest at Party Gardens in Phoenix. Bands on the ska side were: Skankin Pickle', Kongo Shock, Dave's Big Deluxe, and, I believe, the Mudsharks.

It was one great show and the punk bands included Circle Jerks and Plinko. Ah, those were the days!

My first ska show was The Suicide Machines, Against All Authority, The Code, and Big D and The Kids Table. It is STILL probably if not one of the best, THE best show I've ever been too! It just holds so many good memories!

Agreed. Streetlight and Reel Big Fish were my first experiences back in high school as a freshman. It changed my life
