Ska Is Dead "Young Guns" Tour

So, I guess there is a new Ska is Dead tour coming to a town near you.  Problem is, most of the bands DON'T play ska!  Anyway, here is the info (taken from punknews.org).

 

The organizers behind the Ska is Dead tours have announced plans for the Young Guns tour which will, as the name might suggest, feature newer ska and ska/punk outfits. The entire tour will feature Detroit's We Are the Union and New York City's The Forthrights Select dates will feature Nashville's Stuck Lucky (4/15-4/22), Boston's Brunt of It (4/23-4/28), NYC's The Fad (4/19-4/27), and Indiana's Green Room Rockers (4/13 & 5/1) among others.

Green Room Rockers are pretty good. Too bad they're not stopping by California.

Yeah, the Green Room Rockers are great. It's too bad they are the only SKA BAND on this SKA tour.

The Forthrights play primarily Rocksteady and early Reggae, but they've started incorporating Ska into their sound. Besides, most Ska is Dead tours suck balls. If you ask me, this is the best line up I've seen yet for the franchise. It's worth the ticket price alone just to see the Green Room Rockers. And The Forthrights are killing it these days.

I appreciate Ska Is Dead for what they're doing. How many national ska-based tours are still operating these days? It's not the tour's fault that more bands nowadays prefer to play ska-punk than traditional-based fare. SID get what they can: DGB, Westbound Train, Eastern Standard Time, Go Jimmy Go, etc.. Considering the sorry state of American ska as of now, I don't think we have the right to nitpick anyone or anything at least attempting to keep the national scene alive through whatever means accessible.

I totally agree with you Skibz. I support any ska just becuase it needs all the support it can get. And dont forget that alot of these bands could be "gatewaybands"..They start off listening to ska-punk then move to 2tone and by the end of the year they are blasting Trojan reggae. It could be a beautiful thing. Some one could go to one of these shows and five years you could be going to one of thier shows cause they went out and started a ska band that has heart cause they retraced skas roots and know/love/cherish and embrace the true ska culture.

I guess I was just hoping to hear some ska on this ska tour.  I have hit up almost every SID tour since it started, but this will be a tour I will be skipping.

Green Room Rockers and The Forthrights make it worth going to. I've haven't seen either band, but I like both of them.  Plus the Atlanta date is right around my birthday (the 19th) so going to this show would be a good birthday present for me!
